Welcome to the fantastic S10! We are a creative collective of 12 thoughtful, enthusiastic, energetic, supportive, kind and sporting individuals. We are lucky to have 3 class teachers Mrs Horan, Mrs Fawcett and Mrs Briggs and 2 classroom support Miss Gomersall and Mr Gallagher. Our classroom base is room 4.
We are a Year 10 class which means, as well as studying the core subjects English, Maths and Science, we can also access the rich and diverse KS4 Pathways subjects that we have a particular interest in, such as Life Skills, Art, DT, ICT, Sport, Peer Mentoring, Mental Health issues, Arts Award (media/film) Hair and Beauty, Work Related Learning/Coffee Shop and Cooking. We really look forwards to Pathways as we get to spend time with pupils in other KS4 classes. Some of us have been given the opportunity to go to the gym, swimming and little Deer Woods this year.
To complement the exciting KS4 curriculum we spend quality time in our daily communication and Social Interaction (CSI) sessions developing teamwork skills through problem-solving activities; develop an awareness of the world around us by catching up on Global, UK, local, sporting and celebrity news as well as exploring new ways to enjoy leisure time by playing games, completing craft activities and undertaking quiet independent reading.
S10 make positive contributions to the school community by taking on key roles such as sports leaders, school council representatives, recycling monitors, peer support and ambassadors.
When we arrive at school we can purchase toast and jam for breakfast. We then register in room 4. While we are waiting for all pupils to arrive we have individual choosing time: - quiet reading, mindfulness, literacy, numeracy, team building and problem solving activities.
At 9.00 am we leave our classroom base to begin our learning along with the other Key Stage 4 pupils. We follow an independent timetable (copies are in our class trays and have also been sent home). We are taught a variety of subjects by a range of subject specialist teachers. We love the variety of lessons we experience throughout the week.
As well as learning in school there are also lots of opportunities to learn out of school, and we have regular opportunities to go on a variety of exciting trips. Every day is different and we enjoy the new challenges we face whilst working towards achieving our individualized Holistic targets.
At 2.20pm we return to our class base for CSI at the end of each day, this gives us the chance to share our learning and discuss any issues, problems or concerns. We also develop our language and communication skills whilst discussing issues that affect us and others, both at home and in the wider world,
Our Assembly is every Thursday with Mr Swaine our KS4 Leader. This is where we share our class news and we celebrate each other’s achievements including:-
