What Happens In Our Class?

Welcome to S2! S2 are taught by Mrs Tara Travis (class teacher) and are supported (on the whole) by Mrs Wakelin (ETA), Mrs Cooper (ETA) and Mrs Ingham (ETA) at different times of our school week.

S2 are part of a group of three secondary classes who follow a semi-formal learning approach, with lots of opportunities for hands-on and sensory experiences. We work with different adults in the school for PE (Mrs Cassidy), Music (Mrs D), Art and RE (Miss Hodson). In addition to this Mrs Caie helps us with our speech, language and communication, with a focus on dinner time routine and choices; she uses lots of Makaton signing to help with communication.

All staff work very much as a team throughout S1, S2 and S3 with built-in opportunities for the three groups to come together for joint learning through activities. We also have the support of Mrs Caie who helps us with our speech, language and communication. We use Makaton signing to help our communication.

The School Day

Our classroom is our key learning environment. We also have our own playground which supports our physical and social development, as well as being great fun! We use the cooking room and the ICT suite to enhance our learning. We regularly have opportunities to take part in lots of Life Skills visits such as Sensory World, Street Bikes and the local shops.

Monday – PE, Topic, Art, Integrated Studies, Music, CSI.

Tuesday –Cooking, PE, Playgym, Enrichment and Assembly

Wednesday – English, ICT, Maths, Art/Sensory, Singing

Thursday – English, Science, Maths, Life Skills Trips and CSI.

Friday – English, Topic, Maths, Humanities and CSI.

Weekly Assemblies

On a Tuesday afternoon, the pupils are able to take part in whole Key Stage assemblies. These offer the opportunity to reflect on aspects of humanity such as giving, caring, kindness, peace etc. The assemblies follow themes that are generic to all religions.  We actively promote a strong emphasis on respect for all beliefs, religion, and life choices. Behaviour and achievement are also rewarded by presenting children with certificates. For example, DoJo Champion (for Behaviour for Learning), Greatest Artist, British Values, Science Genious.

Every Wednesday we also have a singing and signing assembly led by Mrs Briggs and Mrs Caie.
