Year 7 Catch Up Premium

The literacy and numeracy catch-up premium gives schools additional funding to support year 7 pupils who did not achieve at least level 4 in reading or maths at the end of key stage 2 (KS2).

All state-funded schools with year 7 pupils receive this funding, including:

  • schools maintained by the local authority
  • academies
  • free schools
  • special schools (schools for children with special educational needs or disabilities), including:
  • special schools maintained by the local authority
  • special academies
  • special free schools
  • alternative provision settings (places that provide education for children who can’t go to a mainstream school), including:
  • pupil referral units (PRUs)
  • AP academies
  • AP free schools

Schools receive £500 for each pupil in year 7 who did not achieve at least level 4 in reading or maths at the end of KS2.
