Lakeside Residential Trip
July 3rd 2017
The annual Year 9 residential to the Lakeside YMCA Activity Centre in the Lake District took place from the 3rd July for 4 nights.
Fifteen pupils and five members of staff made the trip along the M62 and up the M6 to the centre's base at Newby Bridge next to Lake Windermere.
The group arrived to glorious sunshine and were soon set up in their accommodation and ready for the first activities of the week which included problem solving activities and a fell walk which involved a fantastic view of Lake Windermere.
Day two brought rain in fact it did not stop for twelve hours! Undeterred pupils and staff continued with the activities attempting the runway and obstacle courses during the morning. Despite the damp conditions everyone was in fine spirits for an afternoon of raft building and racing on the lake.
Wednesday brought a break from the rain and another action packed day. Pupils took part in abseiling, climbing, kayaking and the king swing. It was great to see everyone working together and having a really fun time.
Thursday brought more activities including archery and the low ropes course. In the evening pupils had the opportunity to visit the village of Bowness to see the boats and more scenic views of the Lake District. After all their hard work pupils were rewarded with a well deserved ice cream.
The final day involved a trip on Lake Windermere in the form of a group canoe. Pupils had the opportunity to again work together and navigate the lake and take a final look at the beautiful scenery before packing up and heading home.
We are already looking forward to next year's Year 9 residential so watch this space!
