This time Drop Down Day was a part of Kirklees Learning Week, which was a council wide scheme. As a school we decided to go down the route of Learning for Life. This involved students learning about different jobs and hobbies they could undertake when leaving school.
On the day there were many activities going on, we had visitors from Jumping Clay, a GB Olympic Diver, Mountain Rescue Services, a tree surgeon, a painter and decorator, a drama club and the Job Centre. Many students also went out on visits, including, Sainsbury’s, Krispy Kreme Doughnuts and Kirkburton Karate Club.
We also have a lot of staff who have done many different jobs before working in education so some of them offered their skills, like a beautician shop, hairdressers, a café, a maintenance service team and ICT workshops.
Some students also had the chance to take on roles in school so we had a new Head Teacher, Deputy Heads and Heads of Key Stages who all did a fantastic job, monitoring the progress of the day, doing mini lesson observations and making decisions.
Overall the day was fantastic and all students got involved and thoroughly enjoyed themselves, this was proven by the feedback we got on the evaluation forms and in assemblies.
